Zach's First Alert Forecast: Flash Flooding, a Few Tornadoes Possible Overnight

Flooding will be a major concern tonight into Tuesday morning with training thunderstorms expected. The heaviest rains will be along and south of I-20. The Storm Prediction Center has placed areas south of I-20, including Gadsden and Anniston, under a Level 3 risk of severe weather.

The Weather Prediction Center has placed areas along and southeast of a line from Demopolis, Alabama, to Newnan, Georgia under a Moderate Risk, Level 4, of heavy rain. The highest rain totals could top 6 inches. Cities in this area include Montgomery, Auburn, and Columbus, Georgia.

What to expect

The main threats through midnight will be flash flooding and damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph. A few tornadoes are also possible, particularly south of I-20.

Showers and storms will continue through the night, but the severe threat will gradually diminish after midnight.
