Mets Bullpen Falters Late Again

Edwin Díaz Gives Up Grand Slam, Fading Mets Suffer 8-5 Loss

Mets' Bullpen Falters Late Again

The New York Mets' bullpen continues to be a major concern as Edwin Díaz gave up a game-tying grand slam in the eighth inning, leading to an 8-5 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday night.

The Mets had taken a 5-4 lead in the top of the inning on a two-run homer by Pete Alonso, but Díaz allowed a single to Alek Thomas and a double to Emmanuel Rivera before walking pinch-hitter Jake McCarthy to load the bases.

Christian Walker then hit a 1-2 curveball into the right-field seats to give the Diamondbacks the lead.

Mets Now 4.5 Games Back in NL East

The loss dropped the Mets to 4.5 games back of the Atlanta Braves in the NL East and extended their losing streak to three games.

The Mets' bullpen has now allowed 12 runs in its last four games, and Díaz has given up three homers in his last three appearances.

Mets Schedule Doesn't Get Any Easier

The Mets will face the Los Angeles Dodgers in a three-game series starting Monday night at Citi Field.

The Dodgers are one of the best teams in baseball and will be a tough test for the struggling Mets.
